That parent structure is unusual among the six CMA-named groups because Mars is primarily known as a global consumer business, with veterinary operations as one part of a wider portfolio.

Linnaeus is part of Mars Veterinary Health, which is owned by Mars, Inc. Mars Veterinary Health also encompasses other veterinary businesses internationally; Linnaeus is the UK-facing group within that wider structure.

For pet owners, the practical point is that Linnaeus practices ultimately sit under a large corporate parent rather than local vet partners or stock-market shareholders. Scale figures for Mars Veterinary Health are frequently cited in corporate materials, but they describe the wider network, not Linnaeus alone.

CMA context

The CMA's March 2026 final report named Linnaeus as one of six large corporate groups. CMA materials report corporate ownership of UK first-opinion practices rising from around 10% in 2013 to over 60% at the time of the investigation (Part A and summary).

The CMA did not conclude that corporate ownership is inherently bad for pet care.
