Who Medivet is

Medivet is a UK-based veterinary group focused on first-opinion small-animal care. It grew through acquisitions and greenfield openings, building a network of practices that typically trade under the Medivet name. The group also offers services such as out-of-hours arrangements and referral facilities in some areas.

Medivet is not a regulator and not a single clinic — it is a corporate owner of many separate practice sites. Each location may differ in pricing, staff, opening hours and services even within the same group.

Who owns Medivet

Medivet is majority-owned by CVC Capital Partners, a global private equity firm. CVC announced in September 2021 that CVC Capital Partners VIII would invest in Medivet, backing further growth of the group.

Private equity ownership means strategic and investment decisions sit with institutional backers and group leadership rather than individual vet owners at each site. That can affect how central policies — on procurement, branding, health plans or referral pathways — are set versus decided locally. It does not automatically mean worse or better care.

Scale in the UK

According to FY2024 signed accounts for Hecate Holdco Limited (the Medivet group holding company, published on medivetgroup.com), the group reported 468 veterinary practices and £409 million in revenue for that financial year.

Names you may see locally

Medivet is one of the groups where the corporate brand is often visible on signage, websites and marketing. You may see:

• Medivet as the main practice name
• References to Medivet Healthcare Plan at participating clinics
• Local addresses and teams that feel clinic-specific even within a national group

Unlike some groups that keep legacy local names only, Medivet branding is usually identifiable — but you should still confirm ownership for your specific practice rather than assuming from the sign alone.

CMA context

The CMA named Medivet among the six large corporate groups whose consolidation materially changed the UK first-opinion veterinary market. CMA materials report that corporate groups increased their share of UK practices from around 10% in 2013 to over 60% at the time of the investigation.
